Poem

by Clayton Mo

In groves where flora once sweetly sighed,
through meadows green,
beneath skies of azure sea,
with the sweet smell of pine once in the air
trees and flowers swaying to the rhythm of the wind
Now a graveyard where life once thrived

A deep silence fills throughout the forest
The ancient oaks filled with sorrow,
Their limbs entwined in deep anguish
Lovely flowers that once blossomed,
now shrivelled and fallen
forgotten

The polar realms, where icy sovereigns stood,
in melting tears, they slowly weep
Flowing away into nothingness
How proud they once were,
now onto their final breaths
Creatures of the air and ocean deep,
in desperate gasps, within no reach
The coral reefs, vibrant and rich,
now bleach and fade,
in the vast, dark sea

Towering mountains,
Their peaks once crowned in purity
Bereft of snow, as warmth extends its hand,
But also of life, as it begins to grow
slowly crumble,
rubble sinking deep below into the polluted earth
earth as far as the eye can see

Sunsets, once painted in hundreds of hues
now dimmed and faded,
lost in the far distance
Stars that once danced in the velvety night,
now obscured, their brilliance out of sight.
Skies once clear, now masked in despair,
as pollution weaves its toxic snare.

Amidst the turmoil of changing clime,
Humans bear the brunt of the grime.
Communities displaced by rising seas,
abnormal weather,
Struggling to find new sanctuaries.
Farms once lush now parched and dry,
Crops wither under relentless sky.
Adapting, innovating, a race against time,
A race we may not win in the end

The Earth, like a puzzle,
still lay unfinished, waiting to be fixed
There is one small piece left
And it has to come from us; all of us
For a future that is not yet out of reach

From seeds of change, new life will sprout,
Forests rejuvenate, as green returns
A kaleidoscope of colours flashing through

Flowers once forgotten, begin to thrive
their colours radiant, and alive.

Wildflowers bloom in the warmth of the air
Edelweiss and alpine rose,
Paint the slopes where the cool wind blows
Crystal streams cascade down,
Their waters pure and clear
Feeding the valleys far below,
Where verdant meadows thrive and grow

The polar realms, vast and serene,
A wilderness of white and blue,
Where the horizon meets the sky,
A canvas painted in hues so true.

Icy realms, with renewed grace,
Icebergs drift, colossal and grand,
Monuments of a frozen land
Reflecting the sun in a dazzling light,
A spectacle of nature’s might.
Creatures of air and ocean play,
in clean waters, they freely sway

Mountains stand tall and brave,
their peaks capped in white.
Over landscapes where life had fled,
Now full of it as far as the eye can see

At twilight, when the sun dips low,
The earth wearing a golden glow,
Sunsets burst in hues so bright,
as stars reclaim the velvet night
Skies, clear and azure blue,
Where life will flourish, old and new
